Character Name: Lapis Lazuli
Series: Steven Universe
Canon Point: Right after Hit The Diamond
Summary/History: Wiki Link
Personality: Lapis is introduced to the audience in an interesting way, as we don't even get to see her at first, due to her imprisonment in a mirror. But even when she can only repeat back things she's seen, some of her personality manages to shine through. She instantly connects with Steven; the first person to actually talk to her in thousands of years.. She expresses concern for him and even jokes around. Her sense of humor is surprising, too. Turns out this millennia old gem really likes fart jokes, who knew? She manages to drag that one out for literally hours... Though maybe that's not surprising, considering it's her first actual interaction with someone in a long, long time. She's bound to be a little desperate for conversation after that, no matter what it's about.

Even before he frees her, she calls Steven her friend. And afterwards, well, that goes even deeper. Though she doesn't stick around for him - her desire for freedom too great for that - she does offer to take him with her to Homeworld and expresses disappointment when he refuses. After he heals her and she makes her way back home, she's used as an informant. Rather than tell the gems there about Steven, she keeps quiet about him and sends him a message to warn him, despite this surely being a big risk for her.

As soon as she's dragged back to Earth, she still tries protecting him, trying to act like he's just an ordinary, insignificant human so Jasper and Peridot will leave him alone. It just goes to show that if she likes you, Lapis will be very loyal and do anything to keep you safe. And nothing shows this, of course, like the Malachite incident. While Steven wasn't her only motivation for dragging Jasper into the ocean, he was definitely the major one. She even tells him, later, that she's doing it for him. Even though this is possibly the worst possible outcome for her: once again a prisoner, stuck on Earth, constantly fighting to keep herself trapped.

Her willpower here is very impressive too. Despite being trapped in a mirror, alone, for thousands of years, she comes out of it... well, certainly not happy, but surprisingly together. She's absolutely been worn down by her life and her attitude after getting back to Homeworld becomes very defeatist, as she's too scared to fight what she's certain will be a losing battle, but Jasper managed to push her far enough to make her fight back, showing that impressive inner strength. Just the fact that she was able to completely take control of her fusion says a lot about that, too. Even Jasper is impressed by how long she managed to hold out. And after she's freed, she bounces back very quickly.

After everything she's been through, Lapis is understandably a little... bitter. She wastes no time in letting the Crystal Gems know how she feels, immediately attacking them as soon as they appear. She's friendly towards Steven, sure, but he's a bit of an exception, being her friend. She has little patience for everyone else and, really, you can't blame her. She's just completely done with everything, after all that's happened, and just wants things to stay peaceful now. Really, her being a little tired of everything is the least you can expect. Or, if you're someone she really doesn't like, she'll dial up the bitterness... if not become outright hostile towards them.

But when she's acting casual, she's pretty chill. She really is a friendly gem and it doesn't take much to get her to like you, judging from her relationship with Steven - just be nice and considerate towards her.

She's aloof, but not necessarily cold. Maybe a little deadpan, sometimes. More recent episodes show that off a lot, with her acting pretty disinterested towards everything going on, since she just doesn't really... care. It probably doesn't help that it's all a little ridiculous... Not to mention she's rather disconnected from everything, feeling like she no longer belongs anywhere. Not on Homeworld anymore, at least. Though Steven does manage to convince her to give Earth a chance.

Powers/Abilities: As a gem, Lapis gets a few standard powers. First of all, gems don't have real bodies - it's really just a projection created by the actual gem. This means that destroying the body doesn't mean death, it just means the gem has to recover for a while to reform. The only real way of killing a gem is shattering the gem, otherwise they're fine. They don't need to eat, sleep, or breathe either.

Other standard powers include the power to create bubbles, fuse together with other gems, and shapeshift.

Lapis herself possesses abilities more unique to herself. She can control water, any water around. Her powers are strong enough for her to steal an entire ocean. She can form water into whatever she wants, be it for fighting or other uses - she can even create water clones of other people, that can move around and fight. She can also generate water wings from her gem, allowing her to fly. She managed to fly from Earth all the way to Homeworld this way.

Furthermore, Lapis can project her memories onto reflective surfaces, showing off anything she's seen. An ability she may have picked up from being stuck in the mirror.

Items on your character: Nothing. Lapis doesn't really have any material possessions to bring with her.
